US shows ‘very large acceleration’ in Covid-19 cases, has potential to become new epicenter of pandemic – WHO
[ Editor’s Note: The Trump gang that can’t shoot straight continues to pretend they are in charge. Trump, out of the blue, turns on a dime yesterday and says he is looking to be reopening business “in weeks, not months”.
It was a coordinated campaign with the NeoCon echo chamber spinning that a recession could kill more people than the virus. As usual, no evidenced from a credible source was given to support this.
Then today we have under secretary of State David Lane asking US embassies in Europe and Eurasia to begin hunting for “critical medical supplies and equipment”…“Depending on critical needs, the United States could seek to purchase many of these items in the hundreds of millions with purchases of higher end equipment such as ventilators in the hundreds of thousands.” Lane said that this applied to all countries except Russia.
Trump had just said on March 21rst that American companies were stepping up to produce everything that will be needed for the Covid pandemic. Welcome to the world that our Pretend-a-President lives in.
At some point Congress might have to consider that a major change is in order, to install an emergency President to replace the one we have who still thinks he can bullshit his way through anything, and that none of us can remember what he said yesterday.
Silly incidents like this just lay another brick in the road that could take the Trump regime out of DC in November. I can see the public surging for “anyone but Trump”, who has become a one man national security risk to us all through his major character flaws that VT has been writing about for some years now… Jim W. The amount of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the US is growing so rapidly that the country has the potential to become the new epicenter of the pandemic, a spokesperson for the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Tuesday.
WHO spokesperson Margaret Harris was asked whether the US could become the new epicenter of the global coronavirus pandemic. “We are now seeing a very large acceleration in cases in the US So it does have that potential,” she replied.
More than 33,400 people have tested positive for Covid-19 across the US and 400 have died as a result of the virus, the nation’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported on Monday.
Some US states and cities, including New York and Los Angeles, have introduced emergency quarantine measures in a bid to stop the spread of the disease. However, there has been no nationwide lockdown of the kind seen in Italy and France.
Doctors have struggled with insufficient levels of testing and not having access to enough medical supplies and equipment. According to a report published by Reuters last week, just 60,000 people have been tested in the US, a country of 330 million.
On Sunday, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio warned that the city was “about 10 days away” from experiencing widespread medical shortages.
